At Christmas-time we do well when reminded that the word hope, also translated 'wait' or 'waiting' in our Bible, is not a word communicating wishfulness, but expectation - something to look forward to. Paul wrote of the hope brought by the gospel (Col. 1:5), and opines this as the matter of our rejoicing (Rom. 5:2). So that, in truth, God sending Christ (Emanuel - God with us) has afforded us the one Christmas present that will never fade.
